Former President of Mauritius and a Professor of Biodiversity at Port Louis. She was the first female president of Mauritius and also served as Managing Director at CIDP Research & Innovation. Dr. Gurib-Fakim has chaired the International Council for Scientific Union and was an Independent Director on the Board of Barclays Bank of Mauritius Ltd. She has received numerous international honours, including the L’Oreal-UNESCO Prize for Women in Science, Forbes' 100 Most Powerful Women (2016), and Top 100 Women in Africa (2017, 2019).
