Led the World Food Prize Foundation from 2000, raising over $30 million to transform the Des Moines Public Library into the Dr. Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates. Served in various diplomatic roles, including on the National Security Council. Holds a Ph.D. in International Relations and has received national honors, including the Iowa Medal.
